Infrared Reflection Techniques Course

This one day course focuses on theoretical and
practical aspects of infrared reflection techniques. Reflection techniques
like Attenuated Total Reflection (ATR), Diffuse Reflection (DRIFT), Reflection
Absorption Infrared Spectroscopy (RAIRS or IRRAS) and specular reflection
are currently widely used by infrared spectroscopists. Each technique has
its own merits and adequate background knowledge is required to know when
and where to use it. Even more important is how to evaluate the obtained
results. The spectra can vary significantly due to i.e. the refractive index
effects and changing parameters like angle of incidence. Lectures will be
interspersed by work sessions. During the work sessions spectra will be
collected by the participants using several reflection techniques.
The course aims for people who collect infrared reflection spectra and want
to have a better understanding of the obtained spectra. The course consists
of interactive lectures and practical sessions at the IR instrument. The
course takes 1 day (09.00 - 12.00 and 13.00 - 16.00 h) and will be held
at Utrecht University Science Park ("De Uithof").
The registration fee for this course is € 520,- (ex. VAT). The fee includes
all tuition, course lecture notes, lunch and refreshments. PhD students
receive a reduction of 20% on the course fee.
The number of participants per course is limited. Course language contingent
on the participants; course material in English.
